The English competition from a different angle
This year’s English competition was not only exciting and diverse, but also truly inspiring. In the preliminary round, the participants completed two listening and two reading tasks, a writing assignment and a paired speaking activity. The topics were closely connected to real life — the environment, women’s rights, Black Lives Matter, money and power. It was impressive to see how confidently and thoughtfully the students expressed their opinions. The competition required much more than strong language skills; it demanded courage, empathy and critical thinking.
In the final round, the ten finalists discussed a quotation in a dialogue with a native speaker and delivered a prepared speech. Their confidence and authenticity made the atmosphere unforgettable.
AHS Heustadelgasse achieved first and third place, while Theresianum secured second place.Stefan Stanisavljevic, 7A, ranked sixth.
As a substitute candidate I was allowed to support the organising committee. Thus, I could experience the competition from an outward perspective, which allowed me to truly appreciate the passion, talent and dedication behind every single performance.
