Trip to Uganda – visiting our partner school St. Bernadette’s in Jinja

July 2013

Different culture, different country, different continent and a group of Austrian students. All of us were incredibly excited as this trip would be a totally new experience. At first Uganda seemed so far away but as the day of departure came nearer we realized that our journey was about to begin.

After a long flight full of excitement how things would turn out we finally arrived in Entebbe. The way the sisters of the Sacred Heart welcomed us made us feel comfortable and secure. From that very moment on our adventure started.

The next big step was to meet the students and teachers of St. Bernadette’s Primary School. When we arrived we were truly amazed by their singing and dancing and we knew at the very beginning that this school would become our second home. We spent a lot of time in the school while teaching but also learning from our friends.

To find out more about the culture and country we did a lot of excursions. We were even given the opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful places in Uganda such as the Sipi Falls and the source of the river Nile.

During those two weeks we were able to meet a special country and people of a different kind. While interacting with our new friends we noticed that those who have less give the most. Moreover we learnt that none of the things we take for granted are self-evident and therefore we have to appreciate them every day. It was a wonderful experience and very enriching for all of us.
